If there is a gas or a fluid inside your product which has a higher pressure than 0.5 bar, the pressure equipment directive 2014/68/EU has to be considered. Depending on the risk of the combination of the danger of the fluid, the pressure and volumes/nominal diameter/(DN), pressure equipment (like containers, pipelines etc) are divided in different categories from I to IV. An assembly according to the Pressure Equipment Directive is defined as several items of pressure equipment that have been connected by a manufacturer to form a coherent functional unit. Each category are different modules and conformity procedures allotted which fulfillment can, next to the creation of technical documents as for example risk assessment and instruction manual, also require the engagement of an inspection authority (notified body).

Practical example
The manufacturer of a pressure vessel has affixed the CE marking and issued an EU declaration of conformity in accordance with Directive 2014/29/EU "Simple pressure vessels". Can the pressure vessel be used without hesitation in a pressure system (assembly) despite the "missing" confirmation of compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU?
Hereof the intended and provided usage of the vessel (mediums, pressure, temperature, etc.) has to be considered. In general a “simple pressure vessel” in an assembly according to the pressure equipment directive 2014/68/EU can be used. However in some circumstances the vessel is not designed for the operational conditions and needs a conformity procedure according to the pressure equipment directive 2014/68/EU.
